Internet: “You’ve visited illegal infected website”

Self-tutoring about Internet use: the tutor mentions a recent encounter.

Often I change from Bing to Google.ca to search the Internet. (My default browser is Edge on the Microsoft computers I use.) Occasionally, the typing gets garbled, so I end up at a site that’s not quite Google.ca.

That happened, I guess, this morning, and I was greeted with a pop-up that said “You’ve visited illegal infected website.” If you’re curious, it looked like the example of a fake one shown in this article.

I was pretty sure the pop-up was bogus somehow; I found it quickly on the web. It came from a multi-line web address.
