Self-tutoring about clichés: the tutor continues with a well-worn one.
I mention “It is what it is” back in my post of July 2, 2020. Therein, I point out how it’s used to dismiss, or cover for, one’s own or someone else’s transgression.
Lately, someone else has also voiced a problem with “It is what it is”: John McWhorter.
McWhorter sees right through “It is what it is,” and finds no place for it in the English language.
Every once in a while someone exposes a glib cliché for what it is.
