Health: starve a fever, stuff a cold

Self-tutoring about traditional wisdom: the tutor mentions a situation that might confirm an age-old saying.

Yesterday I was feeling crummy. After finishing my household chores, I lay back, resting. It was all I could do. What I had was a fever, though I didn’t then realize it.

I had some dinner – not much, and not rich food. Four hours later, it felt like it was still sitting in my stomach, like I’d just eaten it. Coincidentally, someone felt my forehead: “You’ve got a fever,” they said. They took my temp: 101F, or 38C.

By morning, my fever was still active, but less: I felt much better. Moreover, the food was gone from my stomach. It seems that, with the reduction in body temperature, the digestive enzymes had returned to efficacy.

Interesting, eh?
