Biology, health: how long do some flu viruses last on surfaces?

Self-tutoring about everyday health: the tutor mentions the endurance of influenza A and B on surfaces.

The following is according to my understanding.

Apparently, cold and flu viruses last longer on flat, hard surfaces than on soft surfaces like paper or cloth. The reason seems to be that they dry out more quickly on soft surfaces.

Influenza A and B viruses, it seems, can endure for one to two days on hard surfaces, but perhaps only eight to twelve hours, or less, on paper, cloth, or tissues. Moreover, once transferred to hands from a surface, they might only last around five minutes.
