Ecology: dragonflies in the yard

Self-tutoring about ecology: the tutor mentions a yard observation.

This summer, I’ve noticed a lot of dragonflies. Today, in the yard, there were three at once. I can’t recall seeing them often before; one wonders what might have changed.

I looked up what dragonflies eat: their diet can include beetles, butterflies, and mosquitoes. I’ve noticed more of all those in the yard this year. One might wonder what’s changed; perhaps that’s for another post.

My reading suggests that if a water feature is added to a yard, it can serve as a nursery for dragonflies. I haven’t added a water feature, but perhaps someone nearby has.
