Academic lifestyle: a way one might find the date of a website, part 1

Self-tutoring about finding the date of a webpage for a citation: the tutor mentions a hint.

I’m in another course, and writing its first required paper. Today, preparing its citations, I fell into a common problem: finding the date of a webpage that doesn’t publish it.

I came across this interesting article by Leanne Wong that gives some ideas. So far, my favourite of her suggestions is viewing the page source, which is done by right-clicking on the page (not on a link), then left-clicking View page source. The code of the page appears in a new tab; therein, one might see a tag telling when the page was last modified or updated.

By itself, this method isn’t always successful, but it’s my favourite one to start with. I hope to mention some others in future posts.
