Autos: brake pads: how much on new?

Self-tutoring about auto maintenance: the tutor finally answers a question he’s wondered.

I have the fortune to be replacing the rear brakes on a vehicle. This morning I looked over the new pads; some other parts are still coming.

You hear comments like “You’re down to 4mm. You need the brakes replaced soon.” Yet, how much is there on a new pad – that’s what I’ve wondered.

I measured today. On these new ones, there’s 11mm.
