Autos: comparing tire sizes, part 1

Self-tutoring about tire sizes and compatibility: the tutor mentions some ideas.

I mention back in my post from May 16, 2023 about how tire numbers might be interpreted.

Today, I was looking into compatible tire sizes based on a given size, when I came upon the idea of a tire size calculator. Such a facility, besides interpreting a tire’s numbers (for instance, 235/65R17), can also suggest other tire sizes that might be compatible based on the size the user inputs.

Taking 235/65R17 as an example, one can notice how height of a tire can change based on width. In the example, 235 is the width of the tire, while 65 is the height of the sidewall as the percent of the width. Therefore, relative to 235/65R17, 245/65R17 has increased height, based on the idea that now, the sidewall height is 65 percent of 245 vs 235. So, just changing the width of the tire but leaving the other numbers the same, its height also increases.

Such is my understanding.
