Biology: the Pleistocene extinction

Tutoring biology, extinctions might come up. The tutor mentions a lesser, yet still important, one.

There are five known mass extinctions recorded during Earth’s existence; the Pleistocene isn’t one, but a “lesser” extinction. It led to the end of such large mammals as the woolly mammoth, sabre-toothed cat, giant ground sloth, North American camel, and others. It seemed to target, in particular, large mammals.

The Pleistocene extinction mainly happened 12 000 to 10 000 years ago. While climate change may be implicated, it’s also believed human hunters may have caused it.
