Bird watching: night owl
Self-tutoring about bird encounters: the tutor mentions a welcome contact.
This is another case of “bird listening” (see a post about that here) rather than bird watching.
At 3:25 am Monday, I found myself half-awake. I knew I’d just heard something familiar, something welcome. I lay still, hoping to hear it again, which I did: the unmistakable call of a great horned owl.
Great horned owls live almost everywhere in North America. Their call is a familiar one that might be recognized from TV or the movies. Yet, I’ve never heard one in the neighbourhood before this.
Welcome, owl:)
