Calculator use: entering fractions with the Sharp WriteView

The tutor brings up a small issue that can be tricky for new WriteView users.

The WriteView I have is the Sharp EL-W535. Of course, a feature of the WriteView is that it shows fractions up-and-down, just like a person would normally write them. Let’s look at a quick example:

Example 1: Use the Sharp WriteView to perform 1/3 + 4/5.

Solution:

  1. Press ON/C to clear the calculator.
  2. Key in 1, then the a/b key, then 3.
  3. Notice the four keys in an oval at the top of the keypad. Press the right one; it also points right. This completes the fraction you’ve entered; I call it “walking out” from the fraction.
  4. Press the + sign.
  5. Now key in 4 a/b 5, then the right arrow as mentioned in step 3.
  6. Now press =. Your should see 1215. To toggle through other forms of the answer, press the change key above the ) key. In turn, you’ll see the improper fraction, decmial, etc.

The Sharp WriteView is easy to use with a couple of pointers:)
