Canadian geography: Browns – LaHave?
Self-tutoring about Canadian geography: the tutor rediscovers a place name.
As a kid living in the Maritimes, I often heard the marine forecast. The announcer said the names the same way each time, including “Browns LaHave” as if it was a single place.
Years later I tried to find Browns LaHave but couldn’t. Finally, tonight, from an ocean floor map, I think I may have. Browns Bank lies around 100km southwest of LaHave Bank; both lie offshore from the southwest tip of Nova Scotia.
I imagine Browns Bank and LaHave Bank have quite similar weather, possibly sourced from a single buoy. Perhaps that’s what the announcer meant, back in the early 1980s, as he gave the Maritime forecast.
