Canadian politics: Frank Baylis

Self-tutoring about politics in Canada: the tutor mentions Frank Baylis, a candidate for the Liberal leadership.

Frank Baylis is a businessman from Montreal who is running for the Liberal leadership.

I hadn’t heard of Frank Baylis before today. However, a Liberal who wants the party to win the next election might do well to consider Frank Baylis for leader.

Back in 2015, Baylis ran in the Pierrefonds-Dollard electoral district, and won with an impressive 58.7 percent of the vote.

Baylis is an engineer whose business has been with medical technologies. Both in business and politics, Baylis has managed success.

Asked how he would pay for health care and other programs, Baylis says that increasing productivity could help a lot. As an example, Baylis mentioned making the government 3% more efficient in helping businesses. That productivity would trickle down, making businesses more productive, etc.

Since Canada’s deficit in 2023 was 2.5% of gdp, increasing productivity by 3%, across the board, might be in line with what Canada needs.

Baylis’s aim toward straightforward, achievable goals could resonate with Canadians.
