Canadian politics: government structure: secretary of state?
Self-tutoring about Canadian politics: the tutor looks into a title he didn’t recognize.
The following is according to my understanding.
I read today about a new defence procurement agency in Ottawa. While one might wonder about its scope, why it’s needed, etc, those issues are for other possible posts. This one looks at the “Secretary of State” title: specifically, Secretary of State (Defence Procurement).
To my knowledge, I’ve never heard of Secretary of State in reference to Canadian government. Yet, apparently, it’s a thing. At present, Canada has many Secretaries of State. The title Secretary of State seems to signal a specific role one plays in government beyond that of Member of Parliament.
Canada’s Secretaries of State are listed along with the Ministers on the House of Commons -> Ministry (Cabinet) page of ourcommons.ca.
