Computer science, business: Apache and Mozilla
Self-tutoring about computer software entities: the tutor mentions Apache and Mozilla.
The following is according to my understanding.
Over the years I’ve gotten many answers by researching the Web. Mozilla and Apache have both figured prominently in said research. To my knowledge, both entities are non-profit software and documentation producers, involved in producing open-source software.
Mozilla might be best-known for Firefox, its web browser. It also produces Thunderbird, the email client. I’ve used Firefox a lot, especially on Linux devices. Moreover, I’ve been a frequent arrival to developer.mozilla.org for answers about web development.
Apache is well-known for the Apache server. SpamAssassin, which I mention in my post from yesterday, is also from Apache. In addition, Apache is behind the OpenOffice suite, which apparently became the basis for LibreOffice. I’ve done some back-end filtration via the Apache server. Moreover, I’ve used LibreOffice a lot in the Linux ecosystem.
To a Linux user, Mozilla and Apache might seem related. Moreover, LibreOffice, which is based on Apache’s OpenOffice, is offered under the Mozilla Public License v2.0. In my mind, at times, the distinction between Mozilla and Apache has become blurred.
Nonetheless, it seems Apache and Mozilla are separate organizations, even while they make software that is interoperable.
