Computer skills: previewing printing
Self-tutoring about computer use: the tutor mentions the print hazard.
Seldom do I make printouts these days, but occasionally someone wants one.
For me (and I don’t doubt for many of you, as well), printing adds complication because the computer I normally use is a laptop, so not hooked up to a printer. Therefore, printing means a file transfer of some kind.
In my experience, both the file transfer and the printing process can change the appearance of the document. I used to check the print preview very carefully, but lately, not printing very much, I’ve lost that habit. I’ve been burned the last two prints I’ve done, because the file changed somehow without my realizing it, during the transfer and/or printing process.
I hope I’ve gotten wise now, so will remember to carefully inspect the preview before printing. Hopefully this reminder saves someone else some trouble:)
