Demographics: actuarial tables, part 1

Self-tutoring about demographics of the US: the tutor mentions a resource.

Reading in the news about seemingly healthy people dying at surprisingly young ages, I came to wonder: what percent of people in the US live to age 56?

Interestingly, there is a table for that exact question: see here. Column b represents how many people remain alive at a given age out of 100,000 originally born. Note there is a separate column b for females and for males.

Therefore, one can realize from that table that, among males in the US, 86,789 will reach age 56 out of 100,000 born: approximately 86.8%.

Interesting, eh?
