Energy, business: energy dependency

Self-tutoring about international business: the tutor mentions the definition of energy dependency.

Energy dependency is defined as (imported energy)/consumption. Therefore, if a country consumes 100 units of energy, but must import 40 units of it, said country’s energy dependency is 40%.

If a country is a net exporter of energy, its dependency is negative, because exports are seen as negative imports. If a country’s energy dependency is > 100%, it means that country is stockpiling energy.
