Energy: what is coke?

Self-tutoring about energy: the tutor mentions the fuel coke.

Coke is a fuel made from heating bituminous coal without oxygen present. It might be pictured as grey, porous, rocky chunks of almost pure carbon. Coke is used as fuel because, being purer, it burns more stably than bituminous coal. It also has many other uses because of its relatively pure carbon content.
