Excel: get the set of unique values in a cell range
Self-tutoring about Excel: the tutor mentions a technique.
If you’ve a cell range from which you want to know the unique values, you’re wise to make a copy of it first, then paste that copy some safe place, away from the active data.
If you’re in the Home pane, click the Data one (across the top there are numerous pane options, including Formulas).
Select the cell range from which you want to extract the unique values.
Near the center of the ribbon you’ll see a Remove Duplicates option. Clicking it, you’ll be asked to confirm the cell range from which you want the unique list. Clicking OK will produce the list of unique values by removing all the duplicates.
Caution: This operation changes the cell range it’s applied on, which is why making a copy first, then applying this to the copy is probably wise.
