Lifestyle: deodorant vs antiperspirant
The tutor shares some facts about deodorant and antiperspirant.
Apparently, it’s not sweat that necessarily produces odor; rather, it’s the wastes produced by bacteria that thrive in the sweaty environments of the body.
Deodorant works by doing the following:
- covers the smell produced by the bacteria;
- may also contain bacteria-killing ingredients.
Antiperspirant may do both of the above, but also reduces sweat output where it is applied. The sweat is released by glands elsewhere.
Possibly, underarm sweat is more of a problem than sweat elsewhere, because the hairy, warm environment of the underarm may host more bacteria.
