Lifestyle: plant identification from field guide: British bluebells
The tutor shares an easy find that has been harder to classify.
British bluebells, while not native to Vancouver Island, are apparently here. I’ve been noticing them amongst tall grass by the roadside, and even in a hidden corner of our yard. They have long, thin, pointed leaves that are basal; the stem and leaves can be 15-30cm long.
The flowers nod, and are pale to dark blue. There are six petals; they may curl backwards. Inside, the stamens are yellow, but the pistil is blue. They have a sweet scent. Some stems have many flowers hanging from them; others, only a few.
