Lifestyle: plant identification from field guide: yarrow (red flower)

The tutor shares an appealing field find.

Over a year ago, in my May 11, 2015 post, I identified yarrow from the yard. It’s doing well this year, too. That yarrow has white flowers.

Today, walking in a different part of town, I saw a yarrow-looking plant with dramatically red flowers, some of which seemed to be white-centered, but red outlined. I wondered, “Can yarrow do this?”

The plant is in a landscape patch along a busy intersection, so I didn’t linger. Of course, landscapers would favour the dramatic, red-flowering yarrow, given the choice.

Arriving home, I checked the guide. Sure enough, it says that while yarrow typically blooms white, it can bloom pink or reddish.

I love this time of year for all the field finds it offers:)
