Lifestyle, shopping: post-Christmas shopping, 2023
Self-tutoring about the tradition of Boxing Day shopping: the tutor comments.
Yesterday I went with my wife, son, and his wife to check out the aftermath of the 2023 Holiday Season in the stores. We visited a couple of individual ones and, of course, “the mall.”
I’ve been following news from Montreal, whence word is that this year’s post-Holiday shopping is perhaps lower-key than people might recall. There are still deals, of course.
We mainly looked at clothes and shoes. I saw some nice stuff at some good deals, to be sure. We meandered through the mall, checking old haunts where we’ve shopped before, as well as discovering one or two new places. In late afternoon we encountered a few T-shirts, some atheletic pants, and one or two items from the Body Shop. My wife probably fared the best, finding two tops that she looks gorgeous in.
As suggested from the Montreal news, it was much more like a regular day out shopping than one would imagine between Christmas and New Years. There was one difference, though: the crowd walked noticeably slowly along the mall thoroughfares.
It was a nice day out shopping and an interesting read on the crowd. Regardless of how brisk business is, life goes on. That’s something that seems different now from decades before: people perhaps already see past the Holidays rather than choosing to live in the moment. At the same time, given their modest pace between stores, they seem in no hurry to leave the moment they’re in.
Happy Holidays:)
