Marine, geography: why 111km/h is 30.83m/s

Self-tutoring about marine terms and ideas: the tutor mentions a neat application of minutes and seconds.

I mention in my post from Oct 1, 2026 that one degree of latitude is about 111km.

Yet, one degree of latitude can also be divided into minutes and seconds, similar to how an hour can be.

Given 60min in one degree, the 60s in one minute, as well as 1000m in one km, traveling one degree of latitude per hour not only implies 111km/h, but also implies 111000m/3600s or 30.83m/s.

Neat, eh?
