Materials: what makes stainless steel stainless?

Self-tutoring about materials and their properties: the tutor looks into stainless steel’s resistance to corrosion.

Apparently, it’s the addition of chromium that makes stainless steel resistance to rust. With enough added (between around ten and thirty percent), it can form a film of chromium oxide on the stainless steel which protects it from rusting.
