Math: algebra: variables on both sides of the equation.

Tutoring algebra includes some important methods, such as bringing all the variables to one side. The tutor mentions an example.

Some point in grade 8 or 9, algebra questions can have variables on both sides of the equation. You might have the equation 2x + 7 = 5x – 8, for instance.

A move here could be subtracting 5x from both sides, to get -3x + 7 = -8. From there, one could next subtract 7 from both sides, to get -3x = -15. Dividing both sides by -3 gives x = 5.
