Mobile phones: I had to replace mine
Self-tutoring about mobile phones: the tutor relates a replacement story.
I mention in my post from September 10 that the mobile phone I had been using, perhaps for a year or more (it was among a couple of hand-me-downs), finally wouldn’t charge, at least under normal conditions. It was a 2017 phone, so I couldn’t complain.
I knew I had to replace the phone; there was no more avoiding it. Normally, I would do such things accompanied by my wife; moreover, she perhaps also could use a new mobile phone. Yet, on Saturday, September 6, she was in the middle of a very busy time, and needed to rest. Therefore, I had to face the situation on my own.
The first time I got a mobile phone – the incredible Nexus 4, back in 2013 – was from Walmart. (I loved that phone; see my post from September 30, 2023, about why I had to give it up.) So, on the morning of Saturday, September 6, I got in the car and headed to Walmart.
There was a lot of pressure on the morning, because I simply had to get a new mobile phone. Back then, it was still summer; I parked at Walmart, fairly distant from the store, like normal, so parking would be easy. In the morning sun, I traversed the lot to the store, old phone in one hand.
Inside, the associate at the Mobile Phone counter showed me a couple phones under 200 and one just over. In the middle was the Motorola Moto G Play (2024), at around 150, which I selected. They offered to switch the SIM card from my old phone over to the one I was buying, to which I happily said yes.
I might have been at the Mobile Phone counter for eight minutes – that’s all it took! Back outside in the summer heat, I texted and phoned my wife from the new phone, to confirm it worked, which it did. I think the total price, taxes and all, was 168 dollars.
I guess it’s been almost three weeks since that day. The Motorola Moto G Play (2024) has been clutch, as they say. I hope to mention reasons I like it so much in a future post.
