Outdoor living: snake bites
Self-tutoring about outdoor living: the tutor mentions a reference about snake bites.
Recently, out of the blue, I got an email from someone, mentioning a resource. They thought I might be interested, so I took a look.
To my knowledge, we don’t have poisonous snakes where I live. However, many people do need to take caution concerning them, so they – and their bites – are interesting.
One aspect I enjoyed about the article is its explanation of the different types of poisonous snakes in the US. It also mentions where you might encounter them, how aggressive or retiring they might be, and their potential danger.
Snakes, the article points out, tend to hide where you won’t see them – in leaves, tall grass, or in woodpiles or cracks in rocks. For instance, walking from a clearing into tall grass can be hazardous. I’ve heard they also inhabit old buildings.
Wear leather gloves, boots, and long pants when poisonous snakes could be around, the article suggests. I follow that advice whenever I’m reaching among tall grass or wood piles.
One message that comes through strongly is that, if you get a poisonous bite from a snake, you need medical attention.
