Philosophy: dieting
Self-tutoring about dieting: the tutor reflects about motivation as well as feelings.
Recently I embarked on a low-fat vegan diet. My motivation was two-fold: weight loss but also reducing arterial plaque.
I don’t have reason to believe I particularly have a lot of arterial plaque, but I’ve eaten a lot of meat and cheese in my lifetime, so I guess it’s possible. However, I did need to reverse my weight gain.
As I understand, the concept of a low-fat vegan diet is that the foods allowed aren’t calorie-dense enough to promote weight gain. Moreover, the low fat intake, with no animal fats, will prevent further plaque build-up in the arteries. Once again, that’s my understanding.
I’m not trying to restrict how much I eat on this new diet. Nonetheless, I’ve lost around nine pounds, so far.
I definitely get cravings for foods I no longer allow myself to eat. However, I doubt it’s possible to lose weight without getting cravings.
Generally, I’d say, I feel better since starting this low-fat vegan diet. For now, I think I’ll stick with it and see where it leads.
