Politics: Canada joining the EU?
Self-tutoring about international politics: the tutor mentions the idea of Canada joining the EU.
It’s been floating around for awhile now, the idea of Canada joining the EU. Yet, could it happen?
From Canada’s perspective, here are two interesting stats: forty-four percent of Canadians think it’s a good idea, while forty-six percent would support it. So far as I’m aware, some governments win majorities with less support than that.
Whether Canada would fit in amongst the EU seems beyond doubt, to my mind. We’re already bilingual and we seem to have a point of view in alignment with Europe’s, more or less.
Some people point to the fact that we’re not part of Europe. Yet, if Greenland is, one might suspect Canada could be as well. It seems apparent Canada has long-standing historical ties to England as well as France.
Who knows – perhaps this European question could be less casual than some might think.
