Politics, geology: enhanced oil recovery
Self-tutoring about the evolving oil business: the tutor mentions enhanced oil recovery.
The following is according to my understanding.
Generally, enhanced oil recovery means injecting a gas – for instance, CO2 – into an oil deposit to make the oil itself easier to bring to the surface. It’s done after the “easy” oil has been recovered: the oil that’s easy to bring up can be less than half the content a deposit.
Offering a tax credit for enhanced oil recovery, based on its use of CO2, argues this: CO2 is being interred, so removed from the atmosphere. However, a person against climate change may argue that, if the motivation for interring the carbon dioxide is to bring more petroleum to human use, it defeats the purpose.
