Politics: what is communism these days? -part 0
Self-tutoring about political ideologies and installations: the tutor looks at communism.
I recall, around 15 years ago, talking with new arrivals to BC – they had been farmers in Alberta. Of course, I asked them what they thought of BC.
“Well, it’s communist,” both wife and husband answered in unison. “You just need to understand that from the beginning. Once you do, life here is more straightforward.”
It seems to me that communism has taken on a much different meaning from during the Cold War. Yet, perhaps the evolution is logical.
Nowadays, communism seems to mean that life is centered around the government. Given the fact that in many places the government is the only employer that pays a living wage, the government really offers the only way forward for many.
Perhaps that’s the modern meaning of communism.
