Social Studies: Mikhail Kalashnikov

Self-tutoring about social studies and philosophy: the tutor mentions a quote from Mikhail Kalashnikov.

Mikhail Kalashnikov invented the AK-47 during World War II while recovering from battlefield wounds. “It’s a weapon for defence, not offence,” he continued to assert in years to come.

“I wanted to construct farm machinery,” he also said. WWII changed his destiny; the AK-47 would become the world’s favourite defence rifle.

When asked if he felt regret for all the casualties resulting from people armed with AK-47s, he said no:

“I sleep well. It is the politicians who are to blame for failing to come to an agreement and resorting to violence.”–Mikhail Kalashnikov
