Trade: what is Mercosur?

Self-tutoring about trade and trade regions: the tutor mentions Mercosur.

Mercosur is defined, in some literature, as a process of integration. As I understand, Mercosur includes, presently, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Venezuela, with Bolivia’s membership pending.

The membership of Mercosur has a population of around 300 million and is among the top ten world economies. (Brazil, by itself, is ninth. By way of comparison, Canada is tenth.)

The European Union has been developing a trade agreement with Mercosur. Currently, Mercosur does more trade with the EU than with the US.
