Tree identification: tulip tree (yellow-poplar)
The tutor shares a discovery he made on a walk to the grocery store.
With my 10-year-old, out for some groceries my wife needed for tonight’s supper, I passed a rather large tree in a front yard. At a glance, the leaves were different: they were truncated. You can see what I mean: just scroll down on this page.
Before today, I’ve never recognized a tulip tree. To my knowledge they don’t grow naturally out here; they’re from the eastern US. However, this place easily hosts lots of guest species, due to its gentle climate.
I’ll have to remember to check the tree out next spring; its flowers are meant to be notable.
I love these neighborhood discoveries:)
