Web hosting: shared vs cloud vs vps vs dedicated

Self-tutoring about types of web hosting: the tutor distinguishes among four kinds.

The following is my understanding; any platform might have their own definitions.

With shared hosting, likely the cheapest, a single server is shared by multiple websites.

Next up is cloud hosting: a website’s resources are distributed over various servers. One advantage might be the ability to stage some of its most often-requested content on more than one, facilitating faster access as well as file redundancy .

Up from there is virtual private server, or VPS hosting: in this scenario, a website lives on a virtual server, which is a partition of a physical one. However, said virtual server has its own resources within that partition.

Dedicated hosting means the client’s website has its own physical server.
