Yard work: coffee grounds against cutworms?

Self-tutoring about how to protect plants from cutworms: the tutor mentions coffee grounds, among other things.

Apparently, some methods to protect against cutworms are as follows:

  1. Stockade around stem (w/ toothpicks or bamboo skewers)
  2. Diatomaceous earth (food grade)
  3. Coffee grounds
  4. Egg shells

The third one I know I can do.

There are other methods to protect against cutworms; these are just the standouts for me.
