Yard work: fence and gate repair, part 1

Self-tutoring about fixing the gate and fence: the tutor continues….

Following from yesterday’s post: In the warmth of June, I finally decided to reinstall the gate. One of its hinges was ready to re-affix, while its other was still stuck on part of the old post. One of its screws was seized, the square indent rounded: I had to remove it some different way.

I braced the piece of post bearing the hinge between two heavy bricks on the ground. Next I got the reciprocating saw, fastened a demolition blade and started on the post. It hit the place the screw must have been, but wouldn’t proceed further, so I quit the saw.

I got a wedge and drove it into the cut, separating it further. Soon the side with the hinge broke off from the main post. Next, I got a hacksaw and cut the screw: the hinge was free. All told, it probably took about 20 minutes, unfastening that hinge from the post.

I’ll continue:)
