Yard work: how to repel yellow jackets (peacefully)

Self-tutoring about gentle persuasion: the tutor mentions how he suggested for yellow jackets to move.

I was repairing a car door handle yesterday when I realized that some yellow jackets had started a nest inside the door. Since the handle was broken, it was easier for them to get inside, and they liked it in there. The nest was as yet too small to live in.

Yellow jackets are good to have around so I didn’t want to hurt them. I found that peppermint oil can repel them. My wife had some left over from her soap making days, so we dripped it on two rags: one I hung outside the car by where the yellow jackets would enter, and the other I hung inside the door. The yellow jackets got the message.
