Yard work: the amazing sheet bend

Self-tutoring about knots: the tutor mentions the surprising utility of the sheet bend.

The following is by my understanding.

I mention in my post from Sept 24 some categories of knots. For instance, a bend is used to join two ropes together.

The sheet bend is one that I find surprisingly simple yet incredibly useful. It’s used to tie two ropes together that are different diameters. One common use of it is to fasten a line to the end of a tarp, for instance in camping.

To me, it’s somewhat mysterious why the sheet bend works as well as it does, but I’ve tested it without fail. However, it seems to me the sheet bend is most secure when it’s under constant tension; I suspect it could fail if tension is removed then re-applied repeatedly.
