Yard work: the thatching ants…found?

Self-tutoring about yard work: the tutor mentions a colony of thatching ants that may have reappeared.

Back in my post from May 13, 2023, I mention a thatching ant colony that lived in the yard for a few years, then seemingly disappeared…or did they?

A few days back, out in the yard, I was looking over an area of longer grass among the borders of a few features, deciding how to tame it down. Looking closer therein, I saw some ants that were red and black. That place is about four feet from their old hill…are those ants from the same colony?

I always let them be, but crows and woodpeckers would attack their hill in the fall. The area they seem to have moved to is bounded here and there by various features including a couple of landscaping walls, so much less noticeable than their hill was.

It’s my understanding that thatching ants are good residents to have in the yard, so I was happy to discover they haven’t deserted me. I will try to leave the grass a little higher in their new home so as to help them from being noticed.
