Self-tutoring about French: the tutor mentions the idea of direct object.
A direct object receives an action, but doesn’t participate. In the sentence He washes the apple., the direct object is the apple. Making it a pronoun, you’d say He washes it.
A person can be a direct object. In the sentence They hear him., “him” is the direct object.
