French: accents: notre and nôtre
Self-tutoring about French: the tutor mentions notre and nôtre.
Sometimes, the presence of an accent changes a word’s meaning in French. For instance, notre is a possessive adjective meaning our. However, nôtre is a possessive pronoun meaning ours. Nôtre is used with an article before it, depending on whether it’s masculine, feminine, or plural:
C’est notre voiture: oui, c’est la nôtre. This is our car: yes, it’s ours.
