Food: turnip vs rutabaga

Self-tutoring about traditional root vegetables: the tutor mentions an interesting point.

As a kid, I was fed turnips, which I liked. They were yellow-orange and sweet-tasting. However, it seems they weren’t turnips, but rutabagas.

I didn’t hear the word “rutabaga” until I lived on a US base. The Yanks would mention rutabagas, but never turnips. They were correctly referring to what I thought was a turnip.
