Home computer use: how to close Teams

Self-tutoring about computer problem solving: the tutor mentions a trick.

My computer security suite complained that, to update Teams, I had to close it. I would have said it wasn’t open. Yet, I restarted the computer, thinking that would certainly close any programs I didn’t know were open. I re-opened the security suite to receive the same complaint.

I found Teams in the thumbnails, opened it, then closed it. That didn’t seem to work either.

I opened the Task Manager to discover that, indeed, two instances of Teams were running. Next, I went online: “how to close Microsoft Teams.”

I was pleasantly surprised: apparently, to close Teams, one right-clicks the Teams icon in the taskbar, then a “close”, or “quit” option (or some such thing) will appear in a list. (I think mine said “quit.”) Clicking that, for me, closed Teams so that my security suite could update it.

I’m not sure I like the fact that Teams seems to run in the background unless one takes specific action to quit it, but perhaps that’s an issue for another post.
