Calculator usage: percentage markups and selling price with the Staples BD-6120G
The tutor covers a couple of fun features of the Staples BD-6120G.
The Staples BD-6120G is a scientific calculator, but it’s got some neat features useful to buyers and sellers as well. In particular, it’s got some very handy percentage features.
COMP mode is a good one to be in for these calculations. Just press the MODE key, then press = when COMP is selected.
Example 1: Find the percent markup if an item is bought for $55, but then priced for sale at 67$.
Solution:
Key in 67 – 55 SHIFT =, which should give 21.82% (rounded).
Example 2: Imagine you purchased an item for $128.57 and now want to mark it up by 15%. What will be the sticker price?
Solution:
Key in 128.57 x 15 SHIFT = + , which hopefully gives 147.86 (rounded).
Although the calculations above can be easily done “the long way” on any normal calculator, the simple key sequencing offered by the Staples BD-6120G might be very convenient for someone doing repetitive calculations of that kind, as well as someone who needs quick answers but doesn’t do math very often.
My own students never ask me questions like the ones above, but they’re fun to imagine sometimes:)
