Canada, Election 2021: PPC

Self-tutoring about Canadian politics: the tutor mentions a party that seems on the rise.

I like democracy and I like respect for personal rights – freedom of speech, freedom of movement, freedom of assembly, etc. I like truth, as well. These may all be old-fashioned values; so be it.

Election 2021 has stirred up these ideas in an interesting way, with the polling success of the People’s Party of Canada, which right now, seems to be at 6.7%.

To its supporters, the reason to support the PPC is clear: protection of individual rights and democracy. Many of its supporters are immigrants from places where those rights are blurry, and want to protect them here, in their new Canadian homeland.

Perhaps homespun Canadians can learn from immigrants the importance of protecting liberties and restraining a government’s power.
