Canadian Geography: Anticosti Island

Self-tutoring about Canadian geography: the tutor mentions Anticosti Island.

I noticed Anticosti Island on maps from around grade 5. No-one mentioned it, so I always wondered why. I’d lived on Prince Edward Island, which is around the same size, and not so far away. People always mention PEI but never Anticosti.

PEI has around 150,000 people whereas Anticosti has around 230. Anticosti is famous for deer hunting. The Province of Quebec bought Anticosti in 1974.

Anticosti is a geographic curiosity, to be sure. It has numerous streams and at least two named rivers. Apparently, moose have been introduced there. Black bear used to live there but haven’t been seen in some time.

I’ll follow up:)
