Canadian Geography, botany, retrospect: soil tendency
Self-tutoring about plants one notices: the tutor connects a plant from childhood with an article he read.
I recall, as an elementary-school-aged kid in P.E.I., noticing a lot of plantain. It seemed to grow easily there along the margins of fields or lawns.
Today I was reading about weeds and what they might indicate about their environment: apparently, plantain suggests acidic conditions. One might put this idea with the one above, and wonder if the soil in P.E.I. might be acidic?
Apparently, soil in P.E.I. does tend towards acidity. Moreover, P.E.I. is known for growing potatoes, but potatoes tend to like acidic soil conditions.
Interesting, eh?
